Automatic delayed re-licensing

Hi everyone,

I am wondering if anybody has seen a good take on automatic delayed re-licensing (say, every released version becomes licensed under a more permissive license after 1 or 2 years): pros/cons, a ready-made patch/addendum to a license… anything?

I am toying with this idea because I like the model of providing somewhat restrictive source-available commercial and non-commercial licenses for the latest versions of software and then making them available permissively forever so that the general public can make a good use of it (assuming it’s still useful, of course).

Thanks!

The MariaDB Business Source License https://mariadb.com/bsl11/ is the main one I know of.

FAQ is useful: https://mariadb.com/bsl-faq-mariadb/ – automatic after 4 years to GPLv2.
