Entitlement in Open Source

I’ve been absent for a little while.

Let’s see if I can reintegrate.

Maybe I can bully @Tammy a little bit, just for fun :stuck_out_tongue:

Responsible sarcasm’s welcome. Actual bullying, not so much!

I appreciate how the post author doesn’t take the sources of entitlement or responsibility feelings as a given, and aims to reform them. This post addresses the maintainer angle. I’m sure the author would have some things to say about user mentality, too.

Firstly, you should only be maintaining open source software you use yourself.

I’m wary of the absolutism here. This can be very difficult if the kind of programmer making the code and using the code are different. For example, the maintainer of a hardware device driver may spend their weeks dealing with hardware, rather than applications.
