@kemitchell Legally speaking, would licenses like that work?

Two things come right to mind:

  1. GitHub gives itself a license in its terms of service. This came up in the lawsuit about Copilot.

  2. I don’t buy the argument that training AI is always fair use. But there are things people don’t need licenses for. On the other hand, courts have generally abided restrictions on use in license terms, albeit with some nuance on whether it’s an IP infringement or contract breach claim.
